The feature set looks familiar to anyone who's implemented enterprise software governance: admin dashboards, user activity monitoring, policy-based access controls.

What's telling isn't what Microsoft built, but why they built it. Enterprise customers demanded visibility into how their developers use AI coding assistants. They wanted to know which teams are generating the most AI code, what types of suggestions developers accept, and how to enforce coding standards across AI-generated outputs.

Microsoft's response validates something we've been tracking across Fortune 500 enterprises: AI governance can't start in production. It has to start in the development environment where AI-enabled applications are created.
